Rent or buy in Saskatoon?

I have a quest regarding renting of buying in Saskatoon. I will be moving with my partner to Saskatoon to complete my masters degree a 2.5yr program. We can comfortably put 100,000 down for a down payment. However, right now Saskatoon is on the cusp of the housing bubble, and we are afraid that it will pop while we are there and that we would loose money. We plan to only live there for the duration of my education, which would be 3 years max. Can you give me some insight?

Hmmm....tough one. Because you're only staying there "short term", and if you believe the bubble there is ready to pop, I would rent.

Unfortunately we don't have intimate knowledge of that area... which is required to give a better answer. For example, there could be some areas where prices haven't moved as much and still offer good value.

But again, for such a short term, we would like rent for that period of time if the risk of "pop" looks real.
