by Aaron Simon
(Pembroke, Ontario, Canada )

In Canada can you defer capital gains tax by re-investing the capital gain back into more real-estate like they are able to do in the States?

1031 Exchange
by: William L Exeter

The 1031 Exchange does allow you to defer the payment of taxes in the U.S., but there is nothing that I'm aware of in Canada. You can review http://www.exeter1031.com for more information on 1031 Exchanges.

RE: Deferral of Tax on Investment Properties
by: Tom Karadza

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your questions! You're right, in the U.S. they have something called a 1031 Exchange that allows this I believe.

In Canada we don't have such an instrument! So there's no way to do it that we're aware of at the moment unfortunately!

In Canada....if you make money...you pay tax. There's way to offset or reduce it that a good accountant could help with.

Tom.
